NomaTrails running adventures blog

If you are part of the NomaTrails tribe, you can nominate a friend.

January 1, 2018 by Pablo Rodriguez

Hey there. Pablo Rodriguez here, from NomaTrails. If you’ve been on one of our NomaTrails running adventures, whether it was in Costa Rica, along the stunning Costa Brava, through the heart of Morocco, or across the majestic Pyrenees, then you already know what we’re about. You’re part of the tribe, and that means you can help us find more like-minded souls.

We, the team at NomaTrails (you might remember us as Run the World Adventures), don’t really think of what we do as just “running vacations.” As experienced runners who’ve tackled trails and mountains across the globe, we see it as something far deeper, a different kind of journey altogether.

1. Their trip, and yours too.

Why do we let only NomaTrails tribe members nominate? Honestly, what we do is tough to put into words. People ask, “You mean a race?” or “So it’s a tour?” or “Why would you even do something like that?” But if you’ve joined us before, you understand. You get it. And that understanding? That’s what’s priceless to us.

We use running simply as a way to move, a means of transportation, just like our ancestors did. It’s not about getting slim or improving your fitness level. It’s about exploration, about traversing a territory in a way only runners can. We go through places where running is the most efficient, most intimate way to experience them. These are not just trips; they are profound experiences that truly change you.

I remember saying in a video once, “These are memories and stories you can tell your grandkids.” And it’s true. These trail running adventures will transform you. They’ll change how you see the world, and maybe even yourself. You’ll go back home changed. Be careful, okay? If you’re the kind of person who thinks running point-to-point, discovering new places every day, and truly exploring an itinerary is a good idea, then you’re one of us. You’re welcome here.

Take our Sicily trip, for example. Pasquale, our guide there, talks about starting from the sea, passing through the internal rural areas, the deep countryside. From these mountain villages, we climb higher, not just straight up, but through the valleys, finding the natural paths. Then we descend towards the sea again, maybe staying in a village like Isnello, where you can see the ocean from your window. From Isnello, we do another section that takes us high above Cefalù. It’s a journey, a traverse, not just a run.

2. Who is a good person for NomaTrails running adventures?

We put a lot of effort into selecting the people who join us. We’re ambitious, yes, and maybe a little picky. We want people who are truly ready to embrace these NomaTrails running adventures 100%. That takes a certain kind of attitude, a willingness to be open, to trust, to let go. That’s where you come in. You know your friends. You know who would be a good, team-minded person for this kind of experience.

I’ve seen these trips change people profoundly. I remember a couple who joined us in Costa Rica; they were married, but not to each other. They met on our trip, and by the next group, they were married to each other! We’ve had many couples tell us our trips saved their marriages, some even attributing their children to the experience. They say, “This baby wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for you guys!” It’s humbling, really.

Or think about Morocco. Abdu and I were once running through the Atlas Mountains. We woke up at 3 AM in the desert, running for two hours behind him in the sand. We stopped, and the stars were just unbelievable. You felt like you could see every single one. After that run, we watched the most beautiful sunrise you can imagine. Those are the moments we live for, the ones that connect us.

One of the most extraordinary days of my life happened in Morocco. We were running in the middle of nowhere, towards a place I didn’t even know. This was five and a half hours in the opposite direction from where any tourist bus would go from Marrakech. We just kept going. After a while, we discovered this incredible valley, a beautiful oasis. The people there live like they did 500 years ago. We found the most beautiful human beings, speaking Berber, a language I’ve been trying to learn for years!

We came across this family, a young girl and her dog, working by an irrigation channel in a deep canyon. They disappeared for a moment, then reappeared, and the girl immediately ran to find wood, made a fire for us. “Do you want to have tea with us?” they asked. Of course, we said yes. We went to their house. It was like time traveling. These are the kinds of unexpected, deep connections that make our trips so special. That’s the spirit we look for in people you nominate.

3. How does this work?

It’s simple, really. We want to make it easy for you to share this experience with someone you think gets it.

Step 1: Let them know.
Talk to your friend. Just let them know you think they’re a NomaTrails tribe kind of person. Tell them about your running philosophy with us.

Step 2: Share this.
Share one of these three pictures on their social media profile. It’s a great way to spark their interest.

Step 3: Let us know.
Once you’ve done that, let us know who you’ve nominated. We’ll reach out to them, just to say hello and invite them to join us.

4. What do they get?

Corcovado, Costa Rica.

We want to thank you for bringing more good people into our community. So, we’ll give your friend a 50 USD discount on their NomaTrails running adventure. And here’s the kicker: next time you join one of our adventures, you’ll also get a 50 USD discount, even if your friend doesn’t end up running with us. It’s our small way of saying thank you for being part of the tribe.

5. It’s a compliment, really.

This is a true compliment, isn’t it? To tell someone you think they’d fit right in with our NomaTrails family, that they’d appreciate the unique kind of journey we offer. And it comes with a 50 USD discount for your friend, should they choose to take part in one of our unforgettable trips.
