General guidelines for eating before the running vacation You should not begin fasting until two to three hours before the start. Consume easily digestible foods and avoid excessive alcohol consumption. The diet should primarily include cereal flakes, muesli, bread, pasta, fruits, and vegetables. Food should be chewed thoroughly to reduce the amount of time it spends in the stomach. Food should be at body temperature.
