Running Retreats 2026: Run Your Soul’s Adventure with NomaTrails

Alright, so you’re looking at running retreats 2026, huh? Good. Because what we do here at NomaTrails isn’t just about covering miles. It’s about something deeper, something that gets into your bones and changes how you see the world. I’m Pablo, and with my wife Cristina and our whole NomaTrails family, we’ve built this experience over fifteen years. We don’t just run through places; we run with them.

For us, running is a way to travel, pure and simple. It’s how our ancestors explored, how they truly felt the ground under their feet. We’re not here to make you slim or just improve your fitness. We’re here to take you on an adventure, to show you the real heart of a place. These aren’t just trips; they’re stories you’ll tell your grandkids. And trust me, they might even change you a little. Be careful, okay?

Cristina shares the NomaTrails story and our passion for running and connecting.

The Soul of NomaTrails: More Than Just Running Retreats 2026

Cristina, my wife and co-founder, tells the story best. We started this whole thing about fifteen years ago. I was working in IT, stuck inside, and it wasn’t me. I needed to be outside, moving. We had two kids then, and she was pregnant with twins. One day, I just told her, “I’m leaving my job. I need to run.” And that’s exactly what I did. We started right here in Girona, running the Costa Brava, our home.

It grew from there, this idea of running places where we have a deep, personal connection. Not just a tourist route, you know? We want to say, “This is my grandma’s village,” or “This is the school my kids went to.” It has to be real. Otherwise, it’s fake. Now, with our five kids (all of them little runners, by the way!), and a whole team of friends and guides, we’re sharing these adventures in places like Morocco, Costa Rica, the Pyrenees, and Sicily. It’s our way of living, showing you our little corner of Catalonia and the world.

Morocco: Time Travel in the Atlas Mountains with our Running Retreats 2026

Ah, Morocco. That’s a place that really gets you. Imagine this: waking up at 3 AM in the desert, running behind Abdu for two hours in the deep sand. You stop, and in that darkness, the stars… you feel like you’re seeing every single one. Then, after all that running and walking, you’re ready for the most beautiful sunrise. That’s a moment we chase, those small, incredible moments.

Morocco Atlas Mountains

One day, we were running in the middle of nowhere, towards a place I didn’t even know existed. This was a 2,000-meter peak, the second highest in North Africa. We were five and a half hours in the opposite direction from where any tourist bus would go. We found this incredible valley, a place where people live like they did 500 years ago. Their language, Berber, I’ve been trying to learn it for nine years!

Then, we saw her. A beautiful 12-year-old girl, Tuda, working with her father by an irrigation channel in a deep canyon. Her face was so bright. She just ran off, found wood, made a fire for us, and offered us tea. Our kids, they’re little monsters sometimes, but this girl… she was pure magic. Later, Abdu told me she didn’t know how to read or write. She’d never had the chance. My heart broke. Abdu looked at me and said, “I’m going to build her a school.” And he did. That’s the kind of connection, the kind of story, that happens on these trips. It’s like time traveling.

Sicily: From Sea to Mountain Villages in 2026

Pasquale, our guide in Sicily, he gets it. He talks about running from the sea, through these incredible rural landscapes, past mountain villages. We don’t just climb mountains; we traverse the valleys, finding the natural paths, the weak points of the land. We’ll pass through places like Isnello, where you can see the sea from the village, then run above Cefalù. Sometimes the coast drops straight into the sea, and we might need a quick transfer, but it’s all part of the journey. It’s about experiencing the raw beauty of the island.

Costa Rica: Jungle Expeditions That Transform You

Costa Rica. Oh, that place has a way of changing people. I’m not kidding. We had one couple, married, but not to each other. They came on a trip, and by the next group, they were married to each other! We’ve had people tell us our trips saved their marriages, even that their children wouldn’t exist without us. It’s wild, the connections and transformations that happen when you push your limits in a place like the jungle.

We’ll take you to hidden waterfalls, places you’d never find on your own. It’s a challenging trip, yes, the jungle demands respect, but the rewards are immense. The sights, the sounds, the feeling of accomplishment. It’s a true exploration, just like Steve Breese said after his 96.3-mile expedition: “truly an amazing experience… a really unique travel opportunity that is not duplicated anywhere else.”

Costa Brava: Our Home, Our Heart for Running Retreats 2026

And then there’s our home, the Costa Brava. This is where it all started, twelve years of running these trails, getting to know every person who lives here. We run from tiny Mediterranean town to tiny town, across the rural countryside, sometimes popping down to swim in that incredible azure sea. Then it’s back up into the forested hills. It’s an amazing way to truly experience this rural Spanish countryside, places you’d never find by car. You see the culture, the landscape, you feel it, on your own two feet.

The accommodations are simple, clean, and the food is always wonderful. The trail running here is purifying. The people of Costa Brava welcome us like family. As Dan Kearns put it, “I was heartened to learn these places still exist, and Pablo showed us the way.” It’s about being part of something real.

Your NomaTrails Adventure Awaits in 2026

You don’t need to be a pro runner for any of this. We use running as a means of transportation, an exploration, like our ancestors did. There’s no way to truly “prepare” for an adventure like ours, but when you come, you’ll finish it. You become part of our team, our group, and our goal is to get you to the end, safe and sound, with a story you’ll love to tell.

We don’t give you all the information upfront, sometimes. We want you to trust us, to just go for it. Because the most extraordinary days, the ones that really stick with you, are often the most unexpected. That’s the magic.
